Frequently asked questions about cavity treatment

Please read this if you are about to undergo treatment.

Q. How much does cavity treatment cost?

Q. Will cavity treatment hurt a lot?

This is one reason many people are afraid to visit the dentist. Simple treatments that do not require anesthesia may cause no pain or only mild discomfort. Treatments that require root canal treatment may involve pain from the anesthesia and pain afterward, though experiences vary from person to person. To help reduce fear of pain, Perfect Dental Clinic has digital pain-free anesthesia devices, NO-PAINⅢ and i-JECT. We may also provide sedation when appropriate to help ease your concerns.

Q. It hasn’t been long since I had treatment, but the area hurts.

Dental materials conduct heat well, and the treatment itself can stimulate natural teeth as the tooth decay is removed and repaired, so some time to adjust is needed. However, if discomfort lasts for more than 2 weeks, root canal treatment may be needed. If you have severe pain, visit a dental clinic right away.

Q. I feel pain after inlay treatment.

Inlay treatment does not always require root canal treatment, but it is used for tooth decay that is deeper and more extensive than decay in its early stages. At Perfect Dental Clinic, preserving your natural teeth is our top priority. Unless root canal treatment is clearly needed, we prioritize treatment that saves as much of your natural tooth as possible. If you have severe pain after treatment, root canal treatment may be needed. A tooth without its nerve can no longer receive nutrients or moisture, so it gradually weakens. A dental crown is placed to preserve and protect it.

Q. Smoking after cavity treatment

Quitting smoking is essential for a quick recovery. In particular, if your treatment involves anesthesia or root canal treatment, you should not smoke until it is complete.

Q. Is cavity treatment covered by insurance?

Cavity treatment refers to all treatments performed for tooth decay. Composite resin, inlay, and dental crown treatments are generally not covered by insurance.

Q. If the treated area becomes loose or falls out

We recommend bringing the dislodged prosthesis and visiting the clinic as soon as possible. Depending on the condition inside the tooth and of the prosthesis, it may be possible to reattach it. However, in many cases the prosthesis becomes deformed when it comes off, or it comes off because of secondary decay underneath, so treatment may need to be redone.

Q. If your temporary tooth falls out

A temporary tooth is used only until the final prosthesis is made, so it needs special care. If a temporary tooth comes off, simply visit the clinic as soon as possible to have it reattached. If you cannot come right away, place it back in position and then visit. If it does not fit back in, avoid putting pressure on the treated area and visit as soon as possible. After a temporary tooth is placed, do not chew food on that side, and avoid sticky or hard foods. In particular, if you have a temporary front tooth, it is best to avoid foods that stain easily, such as curry.
