CHECK POINT 01.

What is the maxillary sinus?

A hollow space in the facial bones, inside the cheeks,Creating sound resonanceFilters out pollutants and dust from the airIt helps reduce the weight of the skull.

If you are considering dental implant placement in an upper molar

In most cases, there is not enough alveolar bone

This is because of the empty space in the maxillary sinusIt is.

The maxillary sinus is surrounded by a thin, delicate membrane. The membrane is lifted, and bone is grafted into the area to create a foundation for placing a dental implant. This surgery is called Dental implant treatment with sinus surgeryThey say

CHECK POINT 02.

Things to keep in mind for sinus lift surgery

Bone grafting is necessary during sinus surgery because the sinus is an empty spaceIf treatment is performed without bone grafting, the dental implant may become loose and fail to stay properly in place, orThis is because it can cause secondary problems such as inflammatory diseases.

Also, if expertise or technical skill is lacking, you may need repeat surgery due to perforation or an improperly placed dental implant, soAt a clinic with professional medical staffIt is recommended that you undergo surgery.

Dental implant with sinus surgery for patients in their 60s

Before treatment

The X-rays suggest that surgery may be needed in three areas. There was too little alveolar bone in the upper right area to place a dental implant, so a bone graft inside the maxillary sinus was needed.

Teeth #20s CT scan

There was 6.4mm of bone remaining in the molar area, with a diameter of 5.6mm, and about 6.5mm of bone remaining in the premolar area. The image shows a panoramic X-ray after surgery in the 20s area. After that Includes artificial alveolar bone grafting inside the maxillary sinuswas performed using

Molar area in the 10s; sinus surgery needed

It is preferable to have about 8mm of bone thickness to place a dental implant. However, when only 25% of the desired bone is present, as in this case, treatment involving opening a window on the side of the maxillary sinus and grafting artificial alveolar bone is preferable. In this case, after surgery, we allow the bone to mature for 5~6 months and confirm that it has formed well before making the dental prosthetics.

CT scan of the premolar area in the 20s
A long time after tooth extraction, the alveolar bone is absorbed and disappears. We confirmed that the outer portion disappears quickly on a 20-series high-resolution CT scan. Only 5.2mm of width remained in this area, so we could place a dental implant about 3.5mm wide, or about 4.0mm wide after grafting artificial alveolar bone. Between the missing right canine and premolar, we found a thicker area of alveolar bone and planned to intentionally change the angle for dental implant placement. The image is a panoramic X-ray taken 6 months after surgery, after the dental prosthetics were placed.

Dental implants that replace multiple teeth
When placing multiple units
To ensure it can perform its final function
The dental implant must be placed in a good position.

It also depends greatly on how much bone remains and where it is located.Rather than waiting until the bone has deteriorated and placing a dental implant in a poor position, making dental prosthetics difficult to fit, one option to consider is placing a dental implant as soon as possible after tooth loss, while suitable bone is still available, to work toward a good result.
