Many people hear the word “surgery” in “dental implant surgery” and think the treatment itself will be very painful or frightening. As with most dental treatments, how much pain you feel varies from person to person, so it is difficult to give a general answer. At Perfect Dental Clinic, we aim to minimize pain so you can feel less worried about it We help manage pain from the start of dental implant surgery through recovery with measures such as pain-free anesthesia equipment, shorter surgery times, appropriate prescriptions, and light conscious sedation.
Dental implants An option worth considering first whenever you have lost a toothIt is suitable for people of all ages. Dental implants are a preferred way to replace missing teeth and can also be used to replace existing bridges or to support dentures.
The process ranges from the initial surgery to place the dental implant fixture in the alveolar bone to the final step of placing the prosthetic tooth. It varies depending on your condition, but for lower teeth, it generally takes 24 months, the upper tooth is 4It generally takes about 6 months, though in some cases dental implant treatment can be completed in a day or two. You will also usually need about 5~6 visits to the clinic.
Among dental treatments that can replace natural teeth, dental implants have the highest satisfaction Can be used semi-permanentlyis an advantage. Depending on how well patients care for them, some keep their implants for 10~15 years or more, while others need another surgery within a few years. With thorough daily oral care and regular dental checkups, you can use your dental implants healthily for a long time. At Perfect Dental Clinic, care does not end with surgery: we provide a warranty program and follow-up care to help patients keep using their implants for a long time.
The cost varies depending on the type of dental implant used, the condition of your teeth and gums and jawbone, the type of dental prosthetics (Crown), and whether you need cavity treatment, so it is difficult to provide a standard estimate. Perfect Dental Clinic strictly prohibits unnecessary or excessive treatment. We carefully assess your condition and create a systematic treatment plan focused on preserving your natural teeth as much as possible, then set a cost appropriate to that plan.
Dental implants are a treatment option for people of all ages, with no age limit. Even if tooth loss is not due to aging, dental implants can restore a shape and function close to those of natural teeth when teeth are lost for various reasons, including periodontal disease or an accident. Younger patients may recover faster and have healthier gums than older patients, and often do not need bone grafting. However, because dental implants can last for many years, careful ongoing maintenance is especially important.
The following symptoms may occur as side effects of dental implants.
✅ You have a fever, swelling, or persistent pain.
✅ Inflammation has developed, and you continuously notice a bitter taste.
✅ A problem has developed in the nervous system.
✅ Pain and sinusitis developed after sinus lift surgery or a dental implant with bone graft.
✅ Your dental implant feels loose.
If you experience any of these symptoms, visit a dental clinic promptly to receive appropriate treatment. Proper surgery is important for dental implants, but aftercare is especially important.
- Quit smoking: Smoking interferes with the bonding between the jawbone and the dental implant and may lower the success rate by about 20~30% (this can vary from person to person). For this reason, we recommend not smoking until your dental implant treatment is fully completed.
- Oral hygiene care Maintaining excellent oral health is essential for caring for all your teeth, not just dental implants. Periodontitis, one factor that can shorten the lifespan of dental implants, is a serious disease that causes the gums to recede. It affects about 70% or more of adults in South Korea. As the gums recede, the dental implant may become loose, and you may need another procedure. Regular tartar removal can greatly help prevent periodontitis, so keep your mouth clean to prevent inflammation.
- Regular checkups: Even a 1 mm error in a dental implant may lead to side effects or shorten its lifespan. While successful initial treatment is important, your care after treatment is complete is also very important. For at least the first year after dental implant surgery, we recommend visiting us for a checkup about every 3–6 months.
Swelling reaches its peak within 24-48 hours after surgery and then gradually goes down. If you have a bone graft, your jaw and the area around your mouth may bruise and swell, along with pain. The swelling usually goes down considerably in about 2~3 days, but it may last about a week for some people.
